About this Product

The Wyandotte is a breed of chicken originating in the United States. The first examples of the breed appeared in 1870s. Wyandottes are a docile, dual-purpose breed kept for both eggs and meat. They also appear in a wide variety of color patterns, and are popular show birds.

The gold lacing on these birds is like a large barnevelder lacing and are just as pretty. The Wyandotte is a breed that suits both free range and confinement in a run. They occasionally go broody. They tend to be quite friendly, and not flighty, and so make good pets for people. They are also very vocal, uttering soft clucks on a regular basis.

The hens will lay around 180 eggs a year. This is not a huge number compared to our other big breeds like the sussex, australorps etc which lay up to 220 eggs a ayear.

They are an excellent quality bird and will lay this number of eggs for 5-7 years.

Please note that City Chick sell their pure breeds at an age from 12 weeks to 16 weeks depending on demand. We interpret the term 'Young Hen' as a pullet under 12 months of age and use the wording so as not to confuse clients who do not understand the term - pullet. The birds are sold at this age as they are perfectly suited to growing with your family and based on demand.

Thank you to Julie for her beautiful photo of her stunning gold laced wyandotte.

Please call or email to confirm availability. Our main season is from September to May when the chickens are laying well.
